Step 1: Clear and Excavate
Remove all vegetation, topsoil, and organic material to a depth of 200-300mm across the entire 22m × 12m footprint. Organic material decomposes over time, creating voids under the slab.
Step 2: Compact the Subgrade
Compact the exposed subgrade using a vibrating plate compactor. Make at least 3 passes in perpendicular directions. For clay soils, consider a 100mm layer of compacted gravel (crushed stone, 20-40mm) as a capillary break to prevent moisture wicking.
Step 3: Install Formwork
