
A singles padel court keeps the full 20 m length of the standard court and narrows the width from 10 m to 6 m. Everything that defines padel — the glass rebound walls, the net, the service geometry, the 5 cm lines — stays in place; only the width and the quantities that scale with it change. Two practical notes from the factory floor. First, on a 6 m court the two end walls are the short sides, so the end-wall glazing drops from five 2 × 3 m panels per end to three — that is where the glass saving comes from, not from the 20 m side runs, which stay the same length. Second, the length of the court is never reduced in commercial builds: a "mini padel court" of 12 m or 16 m is a different product, is not a padel court under any published rule, and the rebound behaviour changes completely.

No — and buyers should not let anyone tell them otherwise. The FIP Rules of Padel (International Padel Federation, in force from 1 January 2026) define one court: a rectangle 10 m wide by 20 m long with a 0.5% tolerance, divided by a net, with service lines 6.95 m from the net and a minimum clear height of 6 m. There is no singles format in the rulebook and no sanctioned singles competition at federation level; the professional circuits are doubles.
The 20 × 6 m court exists because clubs and academies ask for it, not because a federation approved it. It is used for:
What this means commercially is simple, and it is the same discipline we apply to our own product pages: sell it as a singles/training court, never as an FIP-standard competition court. A club that advertises "FIP court" and then hosts a federation event on a 6 m surface has a problem it cannot explain away. Used honestly, the narrow court is a legitimate second product line that raises coaching capacity on the same land.
The vertical build-up is unchanged: 3 m of 12 mm tempered glass to EN 12150 topped by 1 m of galvanised mesh, giving the 4 m total height that lets players use the walls as part of the game. Because the 20 m sides keep their length, the side-wall glass and mesh schedules are almost identical to a doubles court — this is the part buyers underestimate when they assume a 6 m court means a 40% cheaper court.
Where it does change:
One question worth putting in writing to any supplier: which panels are glazed and which are mesh on the 20 m sides? Classic layouts run glass below with mesh above; panoramic and super-panoramic layouts glaze far more of the wall and raise the glass count and the price. On a narrow court this choice matters more, not less, because the whole point of a 1v1 court is wall play in a confined space.

Narrowing the court does not relax the vertical requirements. The FIP minimum clear height is 6 m above the whole playing area, with 8 m recommended for new facilities and no obstruction — including light fittings — inside that envelope. That rule is written for the doubles court, but every indoor hall or covered structure that hosts a 20 × 6 m court still has to clear the same 6 m, because height is what makes the lob and the glass rebound playable.
Lighting is where a narrow court saves money, but only if the design is checked. The lux targets are unchanged (our padel court lighting guide sets out 300 lux for club play and the anti-glare rules that matter more than raw output), yet a 6 m court can often be served by far fewer pole positions. Ask the factory or the lighting supplier for a photometric (DIALux or equivalent) calculation for your exact 20 × 6 m court that shows the lux grid at court level and the glare class — not a copy of a doubles layout with two poles removed.
Not by moving walls, and it is worth understanding why. On a doubles court the side glass sits 10 m apart and forms part of the rebound surface; to play 1v1 on a doubles court you simply use the narrow middle of it, with the full doubles walls still in place. That works for practice, but the angles are not the angles of a true 6 m court: side-wall rebounds travel further, the ball comes off the glass at different points, and the tactical shape of the rally changes. Published club guidance says the same thing — a doubles court can be adapted for singles practice, but the side walls stay in the doubles position.
A genuine singles court therefore needs its own structure: shorter end walls and beams, a shorter net, and its own foundation. If a club is planning both, the efficient route is to order the two courts together — they share the same 20 m length and the same turf, glass and fitting specifications, so one production run, one container plan and one installation crew cover both.

Slab quality is not negotiable either: the flatness tolerance is 3 mm across the full court, because a level deviation shows up as door misalignment and glass stress long before it shows up as a playing problem. Sand infill is usually sourced locally to save freight — 1.7–2.4 t per singles court against 3–4 t for a doubles court — while turf and glass travel with the kit.
A singles court is built from the same component set as a doubles court, so the quote falls in proportion to the quantities that shrink — not by a flat discount. Two commercial points follow. First, ask for an itemised BOM and a loading plan, not a lump price — the container maths is where narrow-court quotes drift apart, and because the kit is lighter and the end-wall crates are smaller, a pair of singles kits can sometimes travel in one 40 ft container where two doubles kits cannot. Second, the delivered weight decides your freight quote: a doubles court lands around 13 t including glass, turf and sand; a singles court is materially lighter but not half of it, because the 20 m side runs and the steel posts are still there.
Be clear about the economics before ordering. A doubles court books four players per hour; a singles court books two, or one coach and one or two players. The rental revenue per hour is usually similar to a doubles court, but the players-per-hour — and therefore the revenue per square metre of your site — is lower. So a 20 × 6 m court is not a cheaper way to build a commercial club. It pays off in three specific situations:
Where it does not pay off: a site that could take a doubles court and hopes to run a booking-led club on singles courts; a "singles court" that is really a 12 m mini court sold as padel; and any project whose marketing claims federation-standard courts while installing 6 m surfaces. A singles padel court is 20 m long and 6 m wide inside the enclosure — 120 m² of playing surface, compared with 200 m² for the standard 20 × 10 m doubles court. The length, wall profile (3 m tempered glass under 1 m mesh), service lines at 6.95 m from the net and 5 cm line width are unchanged; only the width, the two end walls, the net length and the quantities of glass, turf and sand scale down.
No. The FIP Rules of Padel in force since 1 January 2026 specify only the doubles court — 10 m wide by 20 m long with a 0.5% tolerance — and there is no singles format in the rulebook or on the sanctioned circuits. A 20 × 6 m court is a training, coaching and 1v1 surface that clubs and academies build, and it should be marketed as exactly that. Claiming FIP competition status for a 6 m court creates a compliance problem for the operator.
Expect roughly 15–25% below the matching doubles model rather than a flat percentage, because the 20 m side runs and the steel frame change far less than the playing area does. Glass falls from about 190–210 m² to 155–175 m² (mainly the end walls), turf from about 230 m² to 140 m², sand from 3–4 t to 1.7–2.4 t, and the perimeter from 60 m to 52 m. Ask for an itemised bill of materials so each line can be compared with a doubles quote.
The enclosure block is about 20.8 × 6.8 m (141 m²) and the concrete slab about 21 × 7 m (147 m²). Including run-off and walkways, plan on roughly 23 × 8 m (184 m²) at minimum and 24 × 10 m (240 m²) for club quality, against about 312 m² for a doubles court. Two singles courts side by side with a 3 m gap occupy roughly 20.8 × 16.6 m.
Not by moving the walls. On a doubles court the side glass sits 10 m apart and is part of the rebound surface, so 1v1 practice on it plays with doubles angles and longer rebounds. A true singles court needs its own shorter end walls, beams, net and foundation. If you plan both, order them in the same production run — they share length, turf, glass spec and fittings, which cuts production, freight and installation cost.
It is a good investment where land is the constraint or where coaching is the revenue model; it is a poor substitute for a doubles court on a site that could take one, because two players per hour generate less revenue per square metre than four. Use it to add programme capacity (juniors, lessons, 1v1 ladders) or to build on plots, rooftops and courtyards that cannot fit a 10 m enclosure — and model payback with a lower utilisation assumption and coaching revenue replacing part of the court-hire revenue.
